Tarangire national park! The park with a high concentration of wild animals per square meter! Despite having such concentration This park is still out shadowed by its neighboring destinations of Serengeti and Ngorongoro.
Even though Tarangire national park is on the same circuit as those giants’ destination but it is slightly away from them, this might be one of the reasons for this park to be the underdog. Secondly, Wild animals are available at the park during the dry season only while the rest of the year are migrating to Masai steppes for pastures and breeding is the other reason for this beautiful park to lose the fate to its rivals.
Tarangire National park a lovely and Quiet national park that is renowned for the huge Elephant population, Gigantic ancient baobabs Trees,sun-baked termite hills Birding, and authentic safari atmosphere.
At the peak of the season, Tarangire park witnesses huge Herds of Elephants than any other Park in the country. Over 3000 Elephants are gathering around the Tarangire River during dry seasons!
During Dry seasons which are starting from July, the Tarangire national park hosting a superb number of wildebeest, zebra, Cape buffalo, giraffe, Thompson’s gazelle, eland, leopard, greater and lesser kudu, cheetah .. etc.
There are some other wild animals that might be sighted also e.g dwarf Mongoose, vulnerable fringe-eared Oryx, and the graceful Generuk in the course of this time.
Lions, Cheetah, and Leopards are the common residences of Tarangire National Park. Their presence is also affected by the Migration of Hebviours, that’s thus it isn’t easy to spot them during OFF seasons as compared with dry seasons. Spotted hyena, endangered African wild dog, caracal, and serval are also “citizens” of the Park.
The Tarangire national park is a paradise with a big array of birds. It is estimated that this park hosting over the array of 550 bird species! The swamp of Silale has accommodated over 85% of all species. Birds like Rufous-tailed weaver, vulturine guineafowl, northern pied babbler, Ashy starling, Yellow-collared lovebird, and the locally rare bushveld pipit are Tarangire’s endemics.
Tarangire Park is also a home for Raptors species like the Bateleur eagle and the Lappet-faced vulture, pygmy falcon( the smallest Raptors on the continent), at the rainy season, the park invade with many insects that attract innumerable migratory birds from Asia and Europe.
Game Driving is the main activity in Tarangire safaris, some Camps sites have started to offer Adventurous fly camping trips and walking safaris to their guests.
Night safaris within the Park is another activity which is offered by some camps.
July to October is the Best season for Tarangire Safari as Animals are Migrate back from Masai Steppes and looking for Water around River Tarangire.
Apart from this Dry season don’t expect to find high concentrations of game, yet if your preference is a quiet and relaxing kind of vacation, Off-season is the best time for you.
